The Detours of a Dream - Week 1

This is the account of Jacob.
Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them. (v. 2)

Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and opened her womb.  She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, "God has taken away my disgrace."  She named him Joseph, and said, "May the LORD add to me another son." Genesis 30:22-24

Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons (v.3)

The power of “hate”:

When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. (v. 4)

Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. (v. 5)

And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. (v. 8b)

He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.  I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:12-15

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

They replied, "The man questioned us closely about ourselves and our family. 'Is your father still living?' he asked us. 'Do you have another brother?' We simply answered his questions. How were we to know he would say, 'Bring your brother down here'?" Genesis 43:7

Are you ready to follow God’s dreams for your life?
