Isaiah: Waiting for Peace

Waiting – week 2

Isaiah 9:1-7

…because happy people are not consumers.

The newness never remains new – there is always a new thing to make the prior new thing look old.

When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? Isaiah 8:19

“There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.” Isaiah 48:22

Shalom: completeness, soundness, _________________

Shalom means that our foundation is deeper than the storms

From dark to ________________________

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned. (9:2)

From defeat to ________________________

For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.  Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. (9:4-5)

What does peace (shalom) mean for us?

Peace is a _______________ of Jesus

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Jesus is ______________________

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility…Ephesians 2:14

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…Roman 5:1

Peace is the __________________ of all who believe in Jesus

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9

What do I need to do today to move from the frantic path to the peaceful path this Advent season?

Be still, and know that I am God

Psalm 46:10
